USelaine, we don't notice this stuff, but since you mentioned I opened up the origional much larger image, every one of the motifs is different, yet blends in, Its great craftsmanship at play.

The symmetry of it all must have been very difficult to apply. Perhaps some kind of stencil was used as a guide. Lovely.

USelaine, I don't think stencils were used by royal painters, I'v seen some restoration work being carried out, it all done by hand.
