Mughal Era Celing Fresco

Lahore boasts a lot of art and architecture from the Mughal and British Empires, It was the Capital of Mughal empire during the Reign of Emperors Akbar and Jehangir. This Photograph is of a fresco on the celing of a Monument built by Emperor Jehangir for his favourite pet "deer" in his hunting grounds on the outskirts of the city.

Great pic. Very intricate design. How old is it?

In light of how we live today, it seems frivolous to create a monument to a deer. Then again, it's lovely to create art for the sake of frivolity. It makes me wistful.

Hey Alex, I'm glad you are learning new things about Pakistan from here, I will try my best to keep posting interesting pictures from Lahore.

Thanks Dan, The monument and the design is fom 1620 AD, This was the only part of the fresco that I found intact, the rest of it was either destroyed or graffitied over by visitors, It was indeed beautiful.

It was indeed frivolous of Jehangir to create a monument for a deer, numerous lives must have been lost building the huge complex, but frivolity was in the blood of the Mughal and other Emperors.

Nathalie, thanks for visiting, hope to see you here more often.

Jackie, Pakistan is a nation of people where a majority would rather see their name graffitied over national tresures, it really is sad but there is nothing much one can do about it.

DustyLens I'm glad you like the picture, thanks for stopping by.
